FSIS Issues Public Health Alert – Costco Chicken Salad could be contaminated with Salmonella

Salmonella chicken salad costcoOn Oct 9, 2016 The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert out of an abundance of caution due to concerns about illnesses caused by Salmonella that may be associated with a chicken salad product sold from Costco Store #1190, in Lynwood, Wash.

Chicken Salad Sold at Costco in Lynwood Washington – Potential Salmonella Contamination

The CDC alerted FSIS on September 2, 2016 that it was investigating salmonella illnesses in the state of Washington. Those agencies, along with the Washington State Department of Health, determined that rotisserie chicken salad sold at Costco in Lynwood, Washington may be the link.

Four patients have been identified with Salmonella. These patients had illness onset dates ranging from September 2 to September 6, 2016. The investigation indicated that 3 of the patients had consumed rotisserie chicken salads purchased from this Costco location on the dates of August 26, August 31 and September 2, 2016. Product testing did not confirm any positive results for this strain of Salmonella.

Varying weights of the Costco Rotisserie Chicken Salad are in a plastic clamshell package with a clear lid. Affected product dates of purchase would be August 26, August 31 and September 2, 2016. Consumers may have purchased these products on these dates and put them in their freezers and are urged not to consume them. This public health alert is only for the Costco Store #1190 in Lynwood, Washington.
